In-Depth Reviews
1. What Makes a Gaming Laptop Premium?
Three things set premium models apart: the screen, the build and the power headroom. OLED panels with wide color, like the ones on the Legion Pro 7i, Zephyrus G16 and OMEN Transcend 14, look far better than the IPS panels on mid-range laptops. Higher GPU power limits, like the 175W TGP on the Legion Pro 7i, let the same GPU run faster.
Premium laptops also add the small things you notice every day: more memory, faster ports such as Thunderbolt 5 on the Razer Blade 18, better speakers and keyboards, and longer support options like Alienware's onsite service.
2. Is a Premium Gaming Laptop Worth It?
If you play at high settings on a high-resolution screen, yes. If you mostly play esports games at 1080p, a mid-range RTX 5060 or RTX 5070 laptop will feel almost as fast for much less money. See our best value gaming laptop guide for that side of the market.
