How to Choose a Gaming Laptop in 2026
Choose Your GPU Tier
RTX 5060 for 1080p, RTX 5070 or 5070 Ti for 1440p, and RTX 5080 for the highest settings. RTX 50 series GPUs support DLSS 4 Multi Frame Generation.
OLED or IPS
OLED gives deep blacks and fast response. IPS is brighter in some models and has no burn-in concerns.
RAM and Storage
16GB is the minimum; 32GB is now common in mid-range and high-end models. A 1TB SSD is a good starting point.
Thin or Powerful
Thin laptops like the Razer Blade 16 are easier to carry. Bigger chassis like Alienware Area-51 allow higher power limits.
Upgrades
Tool-free access, free SODIMM slots and spare M.2 slots make a laptop last longer.
Quick Setup Tips
- Update the GPU driver: new drivers add support for new games
- Turn on DLSS: it raises frame rates in supported games
- Use the right power mode: switch to performance mode when plugged in
